Diagnosis rates are shaped by access to healthcare, awareness among providers, cultural attitudes, and stigma. In communities where mental health care is limited or ADHD is seen as a childhood or behavioral issue, many adults go undiagnosed. Increased rates often reflect better recognition, not a sudden rise in prevalence. Clinicians understand ADHD as historically under diagnosed, especially in women, adults, and marginalized groups. As education improves and pathways to care expand, diagnosis rates rise. This doesn’t mean ADHD is being over diagnosed everywhere. It often means long missed cases are finally being identified.
