What does ‘masking less’ actually look like for adults with ADHD in real life?
I see a lot of posts saying we should 'stop masking', but I still have to function at work and in social situations. From your perspective, what does a realistic, healthier level of masking look like for adult ADHD patients, and how do you help them move towards it without blowing up their lives?

Masking less does not mean abandoning responsibility. It usually means reducing the constant effort to appear perfectly organized, calm, or on top of everything. In real life, that might look like asking for written instructions, using visible reminders, declining extra commitments, or being honest about needing structure. It can mean not overpreparing to hide difficulties or not forcing yourself to socialize when overwhelmed. Masking less is about sustainable functioning, not lowering standards. The goal is to support your brain rather than constantly fighting it.
