Meds made me realise I had been interrupting people my whole life, and the shame after that was a lot. Did that hit anyone else?

Realising after starting ADHD medication that you had been interrupting people for years is something some people describe when impulsivity drops, and the shame that follows that insight is usually talked about as a psychological reaction, not as a labelled adverse effect of the medicine. Stimulants are used to reduce impulsivity and hyperactivity as well as inattention, so fewer interruptions can be intended symptom change rather than a personality rewrite. Insight into past social impact is not the same as a new side effect, and it is also not proof that every interruption in someone's history was ADHD. If the change is persistent, distressing, or affecting daily functioning, bring a brief timeline to the prescribing clinician rather than changing the dose independently.

That shame hit me hard. Once I stopped interrupting as much I kept replaying years of cutting people off and I felt awful about it for weeks. It did not feel like a side effect so much as looking back with a clearer head. I mentioned the shame at a follow-up because it was sitting on me, not because I wanted the interrupting back. Nobody told me everyone gets that wave. This is only my story. I did not change my dose to make the shame go away.
