Confidence grows when kids feel understood, capable, and supported rather than constantly corrected. One of the most important steps is separating behaviour from identity. Let your child know that struggling with focus or follow through is not a personal failure. It is a brain difference. Name effort and problem solving more than outcomes, especially when tasks are hard for them.
Helping your child experience success in areas of interest also matters. ADHD kids often shine when engaged, creative, or active. Those strengths are real and transferable. Advocate for supports at school so they are not constantly comparing themselves to peers. Over time, feeling seen and supported builds internal confidence far more than praise alone.
