Yes, this is one of the most common adult ADHD complaints. It’s related to working memory, which is the brain’s ability to hold and manipulate information briefly. In ADHD, that mental holding space is fragile and easily disrupted. If a new thought, noise, or emotion enters, the original thought can disappear instantly. People often say “it was right there” and they mean it. The information wasn’t forgotten long term, it just dropped out of working memory. This can feel embarrassing or frustrating, especially socially, but it’s a neurological issue, not a reflection of intelligence or effort.
