Do fidgets and movement actually help you focus, or is it just a myth?
I’ve noticed I focus better when I’m moving (walking, pacing, tapping), but I’ve always been told it’s ‘distracting.’ For people with ADHD, does movement genuinely help concentration?

Movement can genuinely improve focus for many people with ADHD. Light physical activity increases arousal and dopamine, which helps regulate attention. For some, sitting still actually makes focusing harder because the brain becomes under stimulated.
Fidgeting, pacing, or using movement intentionally can provide just enough stimulation to support concentration. This is not distraction. It is regulation. The key is whether the movement helps you stay engaged rather than pulling attention away.
This is why many people focus better while walking, tapping, or using fidget tools. Allowing movement is often a support, not a problem.
