Big challenges often come with urgency, novelty, and clear structure, which activate focus in ADHD. Everyday life is repetitive, low stimulation, and requires sustained self direction, which is much harder for the ADHD brain.
Daily tasks also involve many small decisions, transitions, and interruptions. This creates ongoing cognitive fatigue. It is not that you cannot handle big things. It is that the baseline demands of daily life quietly drain your executive resources.
This mismatch can be confusing and shame inducing. Understanding that boredom and repetition are neurologically harder than crises for ADHD can help reframe this experience.
