Food can change how a long-acting stimulant feels at the start of the day, and it does not do the same thing for every product or every person. Many long-acting stimulants can be taken with or without food. For some products, food may shift onset a little. If the change is persistent, distressing, or affecting daily functioning, bring a brief timeline to the prescribing clinician rather than changing the dose independently. Empty stomach made me nauseous on my long-acting tablet, so I started putting yogurt next to the bottle the night before. I do not know if the day lasted longer. I just stopped dry-heaving on the streetcar. I told the pharmacist I was not asking to move the time. Breakfast is still hit or miss in my house. Only my stomach, not a rule that food unlocks the medicine.
