Does having ADHD increase the risk of developing a substance use disorder?

This is why I get frustrated when people assume stimulant meds 'cause' addiction, mine actually ended a much worse coping pattern I'd built up over a decade.

Genuinely didn't touch stimulants recreationally until after years of self-medicating with alcohol for unmanaged ADHD, once I got proper treatment the drinking basically stopped being appealing.
