I keep seeing people say they hyperfocus for hours but I've never really done that. Is ADHD still possible if I don't hyperfocus?

Yes. Hyperfocus is common in ADHD, but it is not required for a diagnosis. ADHD is about difficulty regulating attention, not a guarantee of intense focus. Some people experience hyperfocus rarely, briefly, or not at all. Others mostly experience distractibility, mental fatigue, or difficulty sustaining attention rather than getting “stuck” on things. Hyperfocus also depends heavily on interest, novelty, and environment. If nothing reliably triggers that state for you, it doesn’t rule ADHD out. Clinicians look at the overall pattern of attention regulation, not one specific trait that shows up a lot online.
