As a student, I can study intensely one day and not at all the next. How does ADHD affect consistency in academic work?

ADHD often causes inconsistent access to focus rather than inconsistent ability. On high dopamine days, studying can be intense and productive. On low dopamine days, even opening a book feels impossible. This variability is exhausting and confusing for students, especially those who are capable. The brain responds more to interest, urgency, or novelty than to schedules. Clinicians focus on creating flexible study systems, shorter sessions, and external accountability rather than expecting steady daily output. Consistency looks different in ADHD.
