Getting out of bed feels like trying to push through a brick wall some days. Anyone else get this weird “morning paralysis” feeling?

Yes, it really can. For many adults with ADHD, mornings are not just about being tired. They involve a sharp transition from sleep to demand. The brain has to initiate, sequence, and regulate quickly, and that shift can feel almost physically heavy. Low dopamine upon waking can make motivation feel inaccessible. Add decision fatigue, sensory sensitivity, or anxiety about the day, and the body can interpret that stress as physical resistance. People describe it as pushing through cement or a brick wall. Small supports can help. Light exposure, consistent wake times, simplifying morning decisions, or adjusting medication timing can make a meaningful difference. If mornings consistently feel overwhelming, that is clinically relevant, not laziness.
