How do you help adults who are terrified that ADHD meds will destroy their appetite or weight?
I'm really nervous about starting ADHD medication because I've struggled with disordered eating before. How do you approach this conversation with adult patients, and what safeguards or monitoring do you put in place when appetite and weight are sensitive issues?

Fear around medication is valid. We talk through realistic expectations. Stimulants can reduce appetite, especially early on, but this is often dose dependent and manageable. We plan proactively with structured meals, protein in the morning, and monitoring weight. Not everyone experiences significant changes. If appetite suppression is severe or distressing, we adjust the dose or consider alternatives. Treatment should support overall health, not compromise it.
