Do I need to wait until my symptoms get bad enough before seeking assessment?
I'm functional but constantly overwhelmed. When do people usually seek assessment?

No. You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve assessment or support. Many adults seek assessment while still functioning, but at a high internal cost. Feeling constantly overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you’re barely keeping up is already a signal that something isn’t working optimally.
Clinicians don’t assess ADHD based on how broken things look from the outside. They look at how much effort it takes to function and whether symptoms are causing ongoing strain, stress, or burnout. Waiting until things fall apart often means people seek help later than they needed to.
If your symptoms are persistent, affecting quality of life, or requiring excessive effort to manage, that’s enough reason to be evaluated.
