This pattern is very common in ADHD and is tied to nervous system regulation. Under stress, the body often shifts into a fight or flight state, which suppresses hunger cues. Many people with ADHD also have reduced interoceptive awareness, meaning hunger signals are easier to miss when attention is elsewhere. When stress eases, hunger signals can come back strongly, sometimes all at once. That can look like overeating but is often delayed eating rather than loss of control. Regular meal reminders, protein earlier in the day, and gentle structure can help smooth these swings. This is a regulation issue, not a lack of willpower.
