Clinicians usually look at which condition is driving the most impairment and how they interact. ADHD and social anxiety often reinforce each other. Difficulty with attention or impulsivity can increase social stress, while anxiety can further impair focus.
Treatment is often layered. ADHD is commonly addressed first with education, skills, and sometimes medication, while anxiety is supported through therapy, gradual exposure, and sometimes medication as well. The goal is not to eliminate one before addressing the other, but to reduce the overall load on the system.
