This is a hallmark ADHD symptom and one of the most distressing. The issue is not motivation or intention. It is task initiation. The brain struggles to shift from thinking about a task to physically starting it, especially if the task is boring or low reward. People often describe feeling frozen, heavy, or blocked. Clinicians refer to this as executive dysfunction rather than procrastination. Strategies focus on lowering the activation barrier, breaking tasks into absurdly small steps, adding external cues, or starting with movement. The difficulty is neurological, not a personal flaw.
