As responsibilities grow, the cognitive load increases even if skills improve. What worked early in a career may stop working later, and that’s expected. Clinicians think of accommodations as dynamic, not permanent. More complex roles often require more planning, prioritization, and task switching, which disproportionately strain ADHD brains. Updating accommodations isn’t regression. It’s recalibration. Examples include moving from simple reminders to protected focus time, clearer role boundaries, reduced multitasking, or structured check ins. The goal is to match supports to demand, not to prove independence.
